The artist

Twenty years, four countries

Diego Cema started out in Brazil and built his craft further in Portugal and Germany. Today he lives with his family in the Netherlands and tattoos permanently in Enschede. Along the way he trained with some of the best tattoo artists in the world and won more than thirty awards at conventions.

1997

The first time

A friend showed him how tattooing works. He had been drawing since he was a child, and even then he thought about making a living from art.

2000

The convention

At one of the biggest tattoo conventions in Latin America he saw what the craft could be. That was where he decided to turn his passion into his profession — and he has been pushing his technique further ever since.

2015

The awards

He has worked the convention circuit every year since. More than thirty awards so far.

Today

Enschede

After Brazil, Portugal and Germany he has settled in Enschede with his family. This is where he works, for good.

Portfolio

Real work, actually tattooed

A selection of recent work, on film. Every piece is designed to order — no flash, no copies.

The work

What he specialises in

Realism, in black and grey and in colour. Pick the one your idea belongs to and send a message straight away.

01

the core of his work

The contrast between deep shadow and soft grey is what gives skin its depth.

02

built up in layers

Warm and cool areas flowing into one another, built up layer over layer so the colour holds.

03

people and animals

A face that genuinely looks like the person: the eyes, the expression and the texture of skin or fur.

04

back, sleeve, leg

A design that runs across the body, built up over several sessions.

How it works

From idea to finished piece

There is no price list. The price depends on size, placement, detail and the number of sessions — every piece gets its own quote. Send your idea and you'll hear what it comes to.

01

Your idea

Send a message with your idea, a photo of the spot and the size you have in mind.

02

The design

Diego creates exclusive artwork from your idea — no off-the-shelf flash, no copy of someone else's work. Usually the design takes shape on the day of the session itself. For a large or complex project, or if you are still unsure, he draws it up in advance.

03

The session

Large pieces run over several sessions. You know how many before you start.

04

Aftercare

You get clear instructions on how to look after your tattoo.
